So, are we talking about Donald Trump, financier, land tycoon, host of the Apprentice? Or are we talking about Donald Duck, that Disney character with the short fuse? I think of both of them as having the same nickname, “the Donald.” In real life or the cartoon, they are equals when it comes to temperament. I think it would be colorful if the answer to the post title is, “Yes, Trump will make a try for the Presidency.” He may even win the Republican nomination. It would be a highly entertaining primary season. Perhaps it can become a new reality show that will run over the course of the next two years. His catch phrase could be, “Your Impeached!” Too bad the other Donald couldn’t run for the Democrats. What a political season the U.S. would witness. On second thought, perhaps Barack Obama would do just as well as a lame duck Donald?

Will “The Donald” Run for President
Saturday, April 9th, 2011Burning the Qur’an and the Hypocrital Response
Wednesday, April 6th, 2011Hypocrites and Hypocrisy… Muslim leadership?
It should come as no surprise that pastor Terry Jones of Florida has finally carried out his threat to burn a copy of the Qur’an. After a mock trial the Qur’an was found to be guilty of crimes against humanity. This mock trial also found other charges to bring dishonor upon the book. It took 8 min. for the Qur’an to be reduced to ashes. There are many politically correct individuals who have called for Terry Jones to be charged with a hate crime. This would be a misuse of the hate crimes legislation. The world condemns the man and ridicules his little flock in Florida. They ask how can such an evil be allowed to continue?
One pastor in Florida has made a political statement by burning the Qur’an and the world condemns him. How could a person be so base, so full of hatred and call himself a Christian. How could he do what the world considers to be such a despicable act? Now comes the hypocrisy, those professors of light… that wrap the world in a dark cloak, and show their black hearts aimed at Christians and those of other faiths.
The reaction to this book burning in Afghanistan was a march that turned into a riot. A UN compound was overrun and many of the occupants were beaten, maimed, killed by Muslims. The Iranian government has launched an attack against the West in its presses. They condemn not only that pastor but the American government as well.
In Iran one of the presses was closed because they had the audacity to print that the government of Iran had just recently burned 600 copies of the Bible. Where is the out cry of the world against such an act? Where are the voices of the politically correct calling for the world, the UN, to charge the government of Iran with hate crimes against humanity? At least Terry Jones took a copy of the Qur’an that he owned to burn. The Iranian government however took those 600 Bibles from the hands of practicing Christians in their own country.
In general it appears that Muslims are thin skinned. It also appears, in general, that Muslims are willing to commit acts against other religious believers that they would howl if committed against them. This is the result of a darkened heart. Now am I saying that the Qur’an is bad and that Islam itself is evil? If I had to judge, on the basis of the acts perpetrated by those who are followers of Islam, the answer would then be yes. Why? Because, as Muslim communities continue to allow the radicalization of their religion to continue, the acts of the radicals and their misfit followers will only get worse. It is their acts, and their acts alone, that has turned so many people against the Qur’an and the prophet. The evil they do under the sun brings a stain to the name of Allah. When Jews misbehave, when Christians misbehave, the name of God is blasphemed. When Muslims misbehave, and do not live according to the Qur’an but by some twisted perversion of the words of the prophet, then is it any surprise that more and more people find Islam a perverted religion and blaspheme the name of their God.
Are we intolerant of Islam? In general, no! But we will not tolerate criminal acts perpetrated against others in the name of some religion. In the Arab and Persian nations all religions are suppressed, their followers are made second class citizens, they are harassed, they are beaten, they are killed and their meeting places are burned or bombed. It is not the Christians, nor the West, that are the intolerant ones. It is the Muslim leaders: religious, governmental and “the movement,” that are the intolerant ones. They are the ones that are full of hate while professing a love of God.
It is up to the more tolerant Muslims to fight against this abuse, done in the name of Allah. If not, they will be drawn into the path of evil… Just the German people were slowly drawn into that aberration that was Nazism in the 1930’s. If you refuse to correct your fellow devotees, it will only be a matter of time when the world will respond with force against Islam. It is up to Muslim’s to reign in the abuses done by their fellow believers. It is up to you to reflect that true light of reason, that Mohammed was supposed to have written about, in the Qur’an. You must carry the burden to correct the abuses, the acts of barbarism, for they are being done on your behalf.
Will you stay silent?
If so… shame!
New Hope for Egypt?
Thursday, February 17th, 2011Egypt at this time has a secular constitution. How long will that last? People are already attempting to make changes. If others have their way it will become an Islamic republic. In such circumstances sharia law finds its way into the constitution and the end result is loss of freedom, beatings and death… specially among the non-Muslim minorities. Like Iraq and other countries Christians who can will flee oppression. The country would become weaker not stronger. I can only hope that the people of Egypt who want freedom, will remember their religious cousins, Jews and Christians, and recall that the Quran said to treat them with respect and dignity.
If the Islamic Brotherhood attains official party status…
If they eventually form the government…
What will rise in Egypt will be hate…
It is the nature of the beast.
Decision Points by George W Bush
Monday, February 14th, 2011Decision Points by George W Bush
publisher: Crown Publications 2010
A trip down memory lane? No, not even close!
A stroll down Pennsylvania Ave? Closer…
Walkabout in the bush with Bush? That’s got it!
What a journey this man has been on. It touches upon his life as a kid to college student to salesman/entrepreneur. He writes of his time as governor of Texas. He spends most of the book writing about his time as President of the USA. The walkabout? That is how I envison his passage from running for the presidency to his leaving the presidency eight years later. He entered as a man, and I believe history will say, he left as one of the great presidents.
The layout of the book was not what I expected. Like many people we like to start at the beginning and go to the end in order. If he did that he wouldn’t have called his book Decision Points. He structured the book by related events. He quit drinking and all the events related to that subject. 9/11 and all the events that held. Other topics with their own chapters: Stem Cells, War Footing, Afghanistan, Iraq, Katrina and some others with the Financial Crises coming last.
Was there anything really new to read? I would say, for myself, no. It was a refresher course in all that I had observed and learned over his eight year presidency. Some of the details however were new but did not change any of the context. Although I don’t think he took the right approach at some junctures in the decision process, and in retrospect his thoughts eventually agreed with mine, he held the reins of power and I believe he did a better job than most everyone else could have done with information on hand.
Are you a liberal? Are you a democrat? Are you an average Canadian (whatever that means)? You probably disagreed with most everything Bush had done. Of course listening to these groups over the course of his presidency I always wondered where the heck they were getting their info? As far as I could figure it came out of the darkness that is “politics as usual” and that is a condemnation of those who practiced it.
Others will certainly have their own opinions about the book. If you like politics, want to see what happened behind the scenes, and learn how Bush was motivated through it all… this is an excellent book to read.
I enjoyed it.
Mubarak steps down…
Friday, February 11th, 2011Mubarak has left the building…
Mubarak has finally stepped down. The VP is not going to take his place. The military will exert temporary control of the government. The people have the fist phase of their demands met. All this and yet so little actually accomplished. In reality they haven’t gone anywhere at all. It is simply a wonderful show where the good guys, the people, oust the dictator.
About the military
I can only hope that they will do their best to prepare the ground work to have open, fair and free elections. This is not so easy a task. The state of emergency needs to be lifted. But lifting this hand of oppression too far will allow other, more radical elements of the population, to cause chaos through intimidation. Perhaps outright violence against other political parties and those seeking office. Don’t lift it up enough and they will be setting the stage to continue the dictatorship under some other “benign” president.
Another aspect is what timetable? If you hold elections too quickly the people will not have the time to firmly establish their different parties. The only groups that would benefit are the ones who are already firmly established. As of this time the main party appears to be “the Muslim Brotherhood.” This particular political entity does not reflect the general values of the Egyptian population. If the military takes too long to hold elections? Most likely nothing will change. It will be status quo. Instead of a president who was a military man you will have a military man with the powers of the president. You will have, in either case, a false political body appointed by the man in power.
What if the military strikes that perfect balance of 1/ Lifting the state of emergency while holding in check the abuses of those who would hijack the electoral process and 2/ Having everything done in a timely manner? Perhaps you would get a fair and representative government. This, however, I believe will be short lived if the people don’t make a stronger stand for freedom… for all. The test? Whether the new government will extend full rights and freedoms to all Egyptians. Will the Christians, and those of other faiths, continue to be marginalized or will they be allowed to have the same freedoms and rights, protected by the state, that Muslims have… or will eventually have.
What started this state of emergency in the first place? President Anwar Sadat made peace with Israel. During a parade the Muslim Brotherhood killed Sadat by spraying the reviewing stand with machine gun fire. To prevent a revolution, a civil war, worse… a state of emergency was declared and the secret police went out to stop the group responsible for the killing of all those people in the stand.
The Muslim Brotherhood is still active today. During Mubarak’s reign they were suppressed. They do have a political wing as many others have. Yet they couldn’t advance, no one could, because the elections were in essence rigged. Now however, the wolf is at the door with the rest of the people. They want to have the doors of political freedom opened. If a fair and just election is held they will gain some power. The problem though is that they have no intention of working toward an inclusive government. From my understanding they set up movements that are dual purposed. One aspect is to help them take care of their own people. The second aspect is to exert physical power to gain (to wrest) control from whatever form of government they are under and place it under Islamic fundamentalist control. They seek to re-establish the Caliphate. This would be the political structure binding all Muslim states into one. Sharia law will become the standard. (Actually, the abuses of various customs, framed as Qur’anic, will be established.) This means that freedom, fairness and equality will be denied those who are not Muslim. That is not what the freedom loving people of Egypt are struggling to attain through their marches and protests. They may get their free elections… but lose the government majority once and they will be back under the heel of a dictatorial regime. It happened in Gaza. In some respects it happened in Turkey, though the military puts limits, as they always have, on the political system. How about Iran?
by hook or by crook
Revolutions have a way of opening the doors to change. When the people of Russia rose up to overthrow their dictator they were seeking freedom from tyranny. Yet within the ranks of the political reformers were those who had no intention of sharing power. They were the communists. They took power “by hook or by crook” They established a governmental dictatorship, an oligarchy, with ten percent of the people forcing everyone else to follow. The Muslim Brotherhood, as far as I can tell, want to achieve the same result. They dictate, you follow… or die.
The same can be said of Hitler and the Nazi party in Germany.
What passes for Islam today, especially the abuses, are not of the Qur’an but tribal customs and interpretations; the addition of the oral stories attributed to Mohammed to that which was written by the hand of Mohammed. The radical extremists and their organizations do harm to the memory of Mohammed and what he established here on the earth. I do not want to see Egypt, and its people filled with good intentions, sidetracked into the darkness by some brotherhood.
The army must preserve the peace. The people need to stand firm. They are traveling a dangerous road. I hope they find what they are looking for.
Mubarak has left the building…
…What is waiting in the wings?
Broken Hearts and Politics – the Gabrielle Giffords Shooting
Tuesday, January 11th, 2011When I first heard of the mass shooting in Arizona I said to myself another horrific crime with a gun. Terrorist? Anarchist? Disillusioned fool? Someone trying to impress a woman? A seeker of fame? Or more likely… a madman?
Then I heard about the 18 who were shot and the six of them that had died. From a nine year old to a grandmother, a judge and a congresswoman, and those who were unfortunate enough to be in the area. The heartache of the families as the extent of this mini massacre are revealed. I can’t begin to comprehend the anguish of soul.
There are many that put on a consoling face and ask for peace and quiet in this time of tragedy. Is it a mask? For most, no. Yet I have heard a steady stream of who is to blame for providing the fuel that waited for the spark called Jared Loughner. From Sarah Palin’s website with its target symbols to the angry rhetoric voiced in congress and of course conservative talk radio all seem to be brushed as the villains in the story that is building. What did the right do to inflame this man to commit such violence?
What I have found out is that Gabrielle Giffords is what is called a blue dog democrat. A member of the blue dog democrats in the 2010 congress. A moderate that almost dislikes the abuses of the far left as the middle of the road republicans do. A two term server who fought a really tough race to win a third term. She was out at a mall to meet her constituents. One man came to meet with her for a different purpose.
Jared Loughner is not a right wing fanatic. His politics are liberal… I have to think twice on that one. Two of the books he read were Mein Kamph and The Communist Manifesto. Two books of which I have also read. The first taking National Socialism and explaining how to make things happen to gain and hold power to change the course of a nation hemorrhaging life because of the Treaty of Versailles. The other, a political discourse to change a world’s politics, to bring about a workers’ utopia. That also would bring about violent other throw of the status quo. Is this the type of thinking that was going through this man’s mind?
It is said that several years ago Jared had the chance to talk to Gabrielle. He walked away from her disappointed… angry? This blue dog democrat certainly couldn’t understand the aspirations and hopes of this far to the left liberal. How could she? Yet Jared thought she would understand. That in some twisted way they were kindred spirits. After all, look at the Obama and far left democratic agenda. Listen to the lies, manipulation and verbal attacks of the recent campaigns. Pay attention to the politics on the hill. Of course it is unfair. It is also a bit unfair of me to mention it. How about this bit of speech… “if they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” Am I to infer then that Obama, who spoke those words, really meant for a Jared Loughner to take a gun and shoot people who are the opponents of his world vision? Specially those who would put a knife to his dream’s fulfilment? Of course not.
I am the type of man that likes to get the facts of an event before I begin to judge what happened. I try to vet some of the info from both sides of an argument. I wish more people would do that. Too few of us do. With Twitter type apps a word spreads like wildfire (going viral?) And some take it for truth. It does seem that some liberal democrats have found the (political) gun they want to bring to the (political) knife fight. This is sad. We need to lay aside “politics as usual.” We should grieve with the hurting families and for those suffering trauma. The congress should make no attempt to pass a law that will affect everyone because of the crazed(?) act of one individual. Sadly I think they will try. We should not try and stifle free speech. And as much as is in us… we should try to live in peace with those around us. Political discourse does not have to be dirty, trashy, deadly…
Back of the Bus?
Tuesday, October 26th, 2010Recently Obama made a statement and this image popped into my head. The image?
What he said at a recent campaign rally was this:
“We don’t mind the republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in the back.”
Didn’t think I would hear such a statement from a sitting President, specially since it is a loaded statement for anyone of colour. Yep, Montgomery Alabama 1955.
Liberal Democrat vs The Tea Party
Tuesday, October 5th, 2010Recently I was channel surfing and came across a CNN political discussion panel: the right and left plus a commentator and the program’s star. Back and forth I surfed between my program and the CNN discussion during commercials. What did the female liberal democrat say about The Tea Party?
CNN… the most trusted name in news? More like silly entertainment themes hosted and populated by bullies who hate well thought out discussions or a dialogue to enlighten the mind. It does grow very tiring. The biggest abusers seem to be those on the left.
$2,000,000 Lake?
Tuesday, June 8th, 2010I hate the waste that the government believes is necessary for a good time. A little pride in showing off big ticket items. The conservative(?) government spends two million to create an artificial lake that will be gone after the summit. What a terrific waste. No wonder the other parties are up in arms over this flagrant waste of our hard earned money.
Oh, one minute, it is a promotional exhibit showing the tens of thousands of people attending the summit what a little bit of Canada looks like. May help tourism? Perhaps… but $2,000,000 for a lake? Well, the $2,000,000 is for the entire display. They are showcasing other parts of Canada as well with that money. Still, the cost for the lake (to reflect our cottage country) cost $200,000 of that $2,000,000. That’s not bad but it is still $200,000. Well, that was for the entire cost of the cottage country display. The lake? It was only $57,000 of that cost. Hmmm… overall that doesn’t seem to be such a huge expense when you are advertising a country as large and as diverse as ours.
So the other parties are crying over the $2,000,000 lake that cost actually only $57,000. They are in an uproar because of the one fifth of one percent of the cost for the entire cost of the summit. And the lake is only one thirtieth of that $2,000,000. Wow, did they fool me into thinking this was a huge waste of money for this lake. If the biggest problem the other parties have with the cost of the summit is that small, tiny, little insignificant part that went to promote Canadian tourism… then they should be quiet.
I thought it was supposed to reflect a flagrant waste of money with no purpose behind it. Turns out to be a fair advertisement of what Canada has to offer vacationers. This is a non-issue. Just what the other parties seem to excel at.
A Hate Link… Really?
Tuesday, March 16th, 2010A friend of mine recently sent this link to me:
One Brit’s opinion about Radical Islam
I’ve heard of the flack this friend of mine got from some people because she sent this link to a few people. Intrigued I clicked on the link so I could have first hand info on what this guy said. Six minutes of some Brit (Aussie?) giving his opinion on the problems with Islam. And what did I think? … very mild dialogue. People got upset over what this guy said? With what is happening in the world today as a result of a renewed flame of Islamic conservatism this guy’s monologue was tame. Warnings (fact based warnings) need to be shouted from the roof-tops.
I’ve read an English version of the Koran. It has its errors and prejudices (my opinion). The real problem with Islam is not the Koran but with the “hadith” (I hope I spelled that correctly). These are all the sayings attributed to Mohammed. This is where true hatred and prejudice can be found. It alone twists the Koran into an unrecognizable mass. The venom we think is in the Koran is there in the hadith. I have read only small portions of the hadith, enough to know, that they speak a different language. The protections in the Koran (for Jews and Christians) are stripped away in the hadith.
This is nothing new. The extra writings of later writers bring disrepute to the original message. Don’t get me wrong… the Koran has errors in it and should be placed under the blanket of “a different gospel” to be considered “anathema” by bible believing Christians. Yet what the conservative Islamist (radical) believes is not the pure Koran but that hybrid created by others to suit their own ends at the time.
They are a danger and need to be exposed. That is what the fellow in England has done. A rather mild expose at that. Guess those who are complaining are too thin skinned or too PC to see the threat. Of course many Jews in 1930’s Europe couldn’t or wouldn’t believe the warnings that some people made during their time.
In the end I do not believe that it will end well. The radical(?) Islamists will cause more pain and death. Some of the people of those countries will respond (over-respond) and isolate, jail, deport, beat and kill in response. Another Godless right wing will arise and a “kristallnacht” aimed at Muslims and/or Jews will occur. Perhaps into this mix the long awaited Antichrist will step in and bring that false peace we know is coming.
You can’t get any more PC than that!
ps: I believe that all Jews, Christians, Muslims and all others need to be protected from the excesses of radicals from any viewpoint, religious or secular. The free exercise of religion is a hallmark of the west. A person needs to be free to choose who they follow based on knowledge and revelation. Those who would deny this freedom are the true enemy of all faiths and peoples.
