Terror Attacks, Fort Hood and the unfriendly skies.

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

This isn’t new news. Let’s review…

A major in the US army, a psychiatrist, aiding military personnel undergoing hard times when returning from Iraq or Afghanistan. This person has contact with a radical Islamic terrorist. They correspond. He isn’t the brightest of the psych team. Someone you have to watch out for. He kills many and wounds many more who are under his care.

Some nutcase takes training in a country known for training terrorists. He is on the British no fly list. He is a known terrorist sympathizer. He is allowed to get on a US plane and only the bravery of the customers flying on the craft prevent a disaster.

Yep, Bush took a no nonsense approach to terrorism. He instituted some of the greatest and most sweeping reforms in the intelligence gathering community. Under his watch, after 9-11, not one attack was successfully carried out on US territory. Seven years of safety.

Now there is Obama. He is trying to make a lot of changes himself. Yet I do not see those changes resulting in a safer country or a safer sky. Yep, less than one year in office and two attacks are launched. One successful and the other thwarted by the public.

Obama certainly is changing the rules by which the US is going to play. Yet it has proven not to be a successful game play. Maybe people were too quick to smear Bush’s success. I wonder how long before Obama’s failures are judged.

Yep, send it to committee… call in the experts… but in the end the real problem is that Obama never had any experience making the hard decisions or leading in political office before becoming president. Yet he talks, so wonderfully… I guess Nero can also play the fiddle quite well when inspired on special occasions.

Hate Speech?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Was it just yesterday that the US Senate passed a bill adding sexual orientation to the protected classes? Such a vague addition don’t you think? What does it mean?

There seems to be a great need for government to create a class of super crimes against humanity. These super crimes are anything that causes harm to one of the protected groups under this new bill. Homosexuality, Transgendered, Transvestite and God knows what else is now protected against hate speech. Why am I talking about speech and not the act itself? Because pastors who want to preach the whole word of God will be charged if they cross this vague line of protection.

Yes, I believe that crimes should be punished… I just don’t think that because someone else thinks your words are hateful (even though your words are not) the punishment must be greater. The Christian community will be attacked in the states not because they commit the crimes but they “incited” the attack because of their speech. How many pastors will avoid talking about sins that cause spiritual death because they don’t want to get charged for the crime of someone else? It is meant to gag the Christian who speaks the truth in love (or not) because the message is not received by the unrepentant.

This is such a flawed law now. What sexually perverse acts will now be protected. The law talks of sexual orientation… what of bestiality? Sex with Children? What else? Someone said the number of orientations is thirty. It is a sloppy law to strike with the widest and biggest fist those who object to the new normal.

We have our own hate crimes legislation in Canada. It is used on occasion to attack the speech of others who are concerned about the spiritual direction this country is taking. As sin heats up there is a chill blowing across Christian speech.

Lord Jesus we need your Spirit to touch the hearts of those in the legislatures of Canada and the provinces. Only you can turn the tide and bring back a wayward country. Before speech can truly be protected a new Spirit must first be in the people. Release your Spirit Lord. Revive this nation and revive the US.

Obama and the Stock Market

Friday, February 20th, 2009

So, the stock market has been going down sharply the last couple of days. It is no surprise to me. The $780b stimulus package is huge. Yet the people who work the money don’t believe that the plan is going to work. Why? Perhaps for the same reason I have… Don’t trust the Democrats in both houses… don’t believe and don’t trust Obama to really be able to handle this.

I saw it coming. When? Back when Obama was still running for the presidency. At first I thought it was my imagination. So I started to pay a little more attention to who was ahead during the Democrats primaries and caucuses. Later I observed the action between Obama and McCain. Seemed like every time Obama took the lead prior to the convention and later the run for the office the New York Stock Exchange took a tumble. If he did badly? The exchange would go up.

I took this to mean that if Obama won the election the money people would be careful how they invested or in this case divested their holdings. Am I saying that the financial troubles we are in are Obama’s fault? Absolutely not. Obama’s rallying cry was “Yes We Can.” However the people who hold the purse strings are saying “No We Can’t.”

To get out of this mess you first need to understand what got us into this mess. Correct those things no matter how politically dangerous it would be. Then take “targeted and timely” measures to stimulate the economy. They have done the stimulus first… and it seems truly understanding how we got here is being avoided. Sadly for many people this will be a rough ride.

Father, there is a way that seems right to a man but the end is death. Father, there is a way out. They don’t see it yet. Change their hearts Lord… open their eyes… so that they see, understand and repent. Watch over your people Father… give them the knowledge to stay ahead of this problem and where they cannot… provide for us. In Jesus name…

Obama – the President?

A New Kind of Presidential Leadership

A New Kind of Presidential Leadership

I can just imagine what Canadians are thinking about Barak Obama. Our country, being mostly liberal, thought George Bush was an idiot anti-christ. Well, the conservative in me thinks that Bush will one day be heralded as one of the great Presidents. But Obama? No, not the anti-christ, not this liberal left leaning icon. No, they think of him as a messiah ready to usher in a golden age.

Personally I hope that he does well. The world economy needs him to do well. But his stimulus plan? Our stimulus plan? A big mistake. A cornucopia of spending initiatives that will break the heart, (and bank-account) of those who have been saving for retirement. Wait till the hyper inflation kicks in down the road.

Before the economy tanked I thought liberal programs were going to be Obama’s legacy of sin and death. Now he will be able to expand his legacy by ushering in poverty.

Agents of Intolerance?

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

taken from my comment post at runningpastor

I usually get tired of the old complaint that Christians (evangelical) are dumb hicks with an axe to grind and not above violence in the name of God. This usually comes from people who are bigoted themselves. The brush they use to tar us is the same brush that created them in their own image.

What is sad is that it isn’t always the people on the left. You can see it rising in the aftermath of the US election. The “right” are looking for reasons why they lost. They point their finger once again to “those agents of intolerance” the evangelical Christian.

Is it surprising that we are the whipping boy of the non-christian right and most of the left? There is that scripture that says they will think us weird because we don’t run with the same excess as they do. Another, we are in the light and the darkness hates us because they don’t and can’t understand us.

Fortunately for us, most people are somewhere in the middle. They take John (Lennon’s) scripture to heart… Live and let live. It does get tiring that the mud that some sling is aimed at Christians. On occassion we deserve it. But most of the time we don’t. I must tell you… the teflon coating I’ve been given by the Spirit sometimes wears a bit thin. Hate, their hate, can do that. And sometimes, just sometimes, I respond in kind… sigh!

Oh Oh Canada

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

I like my country. I like what it use to stand for in a world going crazy. Yet over the years I have watched as my country leapt to the front of the line. Follow us, my country cried, to the other nations as we blazed the back-sliding trail away from God. There used to be a sweet fragrance coming from our political flower. The flower has changed and so too the aroma. The seeds we sow now are for our own eventual destruction. When a person like Dr Henry Morgentaler can be given the Order of Canada medal and inducted into their ranks something has gone awfully wrong. Perhaps it is time to change the direction and name of the medal. Here is my idea of what it could be now…

Too harsh? Give it another twenty years and you may not think so.
