WordPress change

I am changing how and who can comment on my blog. Anyone who has blogged in the past… no change. Anyone new trying to post a comment… it will be held until I approve it.  Just trying to cut down on the spam posts that keep appearing.

I wish wordpress would come up with that verification program that is availlable with some other blogs like blogger. That would really cut down on the spam.

Hey Joe, I feel privileged, not being censored. I suppose it’s redundant of me to ask why WordPress is being used rather than Blogspot. Maybe the answer is too long and involved. I don’t know much about this stuff – I feel lucky to be able to lurk around and comment on what others write. Sometimes, I don’t comment. Anyway, I appreciate what you write. It keeps me amused. I’m a simple soul — don’t agree with that remark !

    I don’t use the verification thing – I don’t know why I don’t get spammed.

    But I don’t.

    Yay!

  3. Don: I use wordpress because it gives me a lot more control in how the blog works. In addition, if I write something that offends people… and I occassionally do… I don’t have to worry about moderators coming into my site and deleting portions of my blog… or run the risk of losing the blog. Though I am usually careful how I word my thoughts sometimes you can’t help but offend because of the thin skin of some people.

patti: One of the advantages of using a program like blogger is that they have their own programs that can quickly spot spam patterns and stop them before too many people are affected. The verification pattern simply adds another layer of protection from auto spam bots.

Having wrote this I should say that those who don’t want the hassel of always updating and moderating everything on their blog, WordPress has an easy sign-up process and you can host an account on their servers and let them do most of the work. I just like to be a little more independant. I like everything I do to be in one place and accessible to all.

In the early days I use to have five or six accounts with different companies because free sites were limited to 25 megs but they came with a lot of advertising. About five years ago I decided to pay for some server space, brought all my stuff together and got rid of the ads. Haven’t looked back since. Since then I have added several sites, hundreds of pages and photos and my blog, all hosted from one account. In the long run it is less work and I have a better “product.”

I like the fact that you are not afraid to speak your mind and express what you believe even if you ruffle a few feathers. I don’t always agree with you, but I do respect you, even if your honesty is directed in my direction. I’m fairly new to this blogging stuff too. I was hoping to insight some honest disgussion, particularily on faith issues, because I like expressing what I believe and like to hear what others think, and I have even been known to change my mind on issues when others inject sound arguments that make more sense than mine. I’ve been a bit disappointed in the response to some of my posts, but you are definately not afraid to give your opinion and I really appreciate that. Thanks Joe.

  5. Blogging is something you do because you feel you have something to say. And if your readers are lucky it is something they actually would like to read. Sadly, or fortunately… most people seem to be lurkers. I like lurkers. They give me no problems or hassels. I know I get quite a few visitors and I hope that each one enjoys their time at my site.

I have been to discussion boards where it was usually WWIII. Some intentionally lie and misdirect. Others simply want to blindly fight for their point of view. Seldom it is a learning process. Believe me Doug, if you get a few heartfelt responses to some of your posts you are actually doing well. You really wouldn’t like to have what happens in the boards to happen on your blog.

I enjoy reading some of your stories. I can only hope that you don’t get discouraged and stop writing.

ps: by the way… I don’t understand why I have to keep approving your comments. Don and patti don’t have that problem. I’ll give it a couple of more days and see if the problem clears up.

Could be a trace of performance orientation left in me and I still need some approval and the computor knows it ! lol
