At nine Linda said the snow wasn’t that bad. I agreed. But I told her when the wind shifted to the north east we would get it. And lo, the words were not out of my mouth and the wind shifted.
Eleven hours after my last post and the snow is flying as if it were pursuing a vendetta.
An hour later Linda still wanted to go to church. I tried to talk her out of it but she was on a mission to see the special speaker at church. So, off I went to clear the car. Down the street. Round a couple of corners. Trudge, trudge, trudging through the snow.
Twenty minutes later I pull up in front of the house. Linda comes down to the steps and gets in. To get to church I have to drive around the next block. As I pass in front of our house again Linda notices how bad the snow is. Well, snow can’t be bad, but it would be nice to see out of the windshield. “Better go park the car”, she said.
Around the next block to our parking space. I had to roll down the windows so I could see to back up the car. Barely got in. Linda and I head back to the house. Down the street. Around a couple of corners. Trudge, trudge, trudging through the snow.
A thirty five minute mini-adventure. 😉
I feel your pain. We had a similiar experience. By the time we were ready to leave ( Ruth is slow with her bad leg) it was 10:15am and I hadn’t even started dealing with the snow issue yet. Then I got thinking, it’s going to take me an hour to clear the 8″ we have in the side drive. I have to work this afternoon which will mean leaving two hours earlier than normal if I have any chance to make it on time. I start at 4:43pm and work until 1:32am. Then there is the issue of my energy level, because of the weather last night it took me extra time to get home. I didn’t get to bed until 3:15am. As much as I wanted to see that acting guy at church, my common sense got the better of me. We decided not to go. We did a devotion which basically said you should worship every day and can can do it anywhere. That confirmed our decision. Then spent some nice quality time with my honey. Well my battle is just beginning for the day. Try driving a 40′ bus in this stuff with a bunch of ungratefull people cursing you all day wondering why the service is so slow today. Oh. well, it’s all in a days work. I’m glad I have a job and some good friends that will listen to me. Thanks Joe! You have a nice day and stay warm. Time to go shovel now.
Mini adventure ?? Sounds like a mis-adventure to me Joe. I was ready to go to church at 9:30 but, after talking to Doug, it appeared we might be able to get out of the driveway, but, with the forecast, it was a real possibility that we would not get back in after church. So, I enjoyed the Hour of Power except No. 1 daughter called me in the middle of it . Anyway, I heard the sermon.
I would like to publicly thank Doug for coming over to my house and helping me shovel out the walk and my parking space. Thanks again Doug, you made a heavy task much lighter.
You are more than welcome Joe. I actually enjoy shovelling snow, and I enjoy it more with friends like you to talk to while I’m doing it. Commaraudarie. Did I spell that right? Probably not. Any way, I will try to make it over next time it snows and we can enjoy some hot beverage and good conversation afterwards.
Anonymous? How did that happen?
Dougie, I monitor my blog by email. When I saw that you were asking “anonymous†a question I thought how on earth did that get by me. When I read your post yesterday the name missing didn’t even register with me. Ha! I guess it didn’t register with the blog software either.
Don’t worry. You really are a person and a somebody. I also kinda like the name Dougie… except when it was used in the TV program “Dougie Howser.†“Hauswer?
Hey! Community snow-shovelling!!! I love that!
We did some of that too, but not until late Sunday and then on Monday.
We couldn’t get home on Sunday afternoon.
we’ve got a great street for community shovelling … and all the better in one neighbour with a monster snow blower who usually ends up doing the walks and the ends of the drive after the plow goes through.
the regular shovelling i don’t mind so much … we did it in phases on sunday so it wasn’t so bad.
