Computer Competency

Originally posted at runningpastor.blogspot.com (mostly)

I have a book on Perl programing that has been sitting on my desk for months. I know just enough Perl to get into trouble. Not enough to do anything really useful.

Think of it as a puzzle book for the computer squeek. Computer Squeek? You have heard of computer geeks who can do everything. A Squeek is someone… well someone who just squeeks by.

There are three classes of people who use computers.

1. The Eeks
2. The Squeeks
3. The Geeks

 Which one are you?

Joe, I commented on the running pastor before reading your blog. I noted that you had not defined ” The Eeks “—-are they the failures ??? That would be me as far as computer programming is concerned. I manage to understand enough about the programs I have, so that I can accomplish what I need to do—–BUT—— ALL those 00000000111111111———–………../ that’s Greek to me.

    Eeks example:

You are sitting at your computer… you just finished typing a long response to a question asked of you… you hit the send button… A different page loads. Rats! It didn’t send. You click back to your page… everything you just wrote is gone… Eeeeek! Where is it? I saved it didn’t I? Gone forever?

There could be a fourth clase of computer user… they actually are before the Eeks… they are the meeks. When the instructions say “press any key to continue” they don’t… afraid that they will hit the wrong key. They are so afraid they don’t even try to shut their computer down not knowing the consquences such an action will cause.

In this case the Meeks of the digital world will not inherit it.
