First Spammer Attack

Since I opened this blog (recently under wordpress) I was wondering how long before the first spammer would find it and leave a spam lunch for me to chew through. Yesterday was the first. Six comments were tagged for moderation and two were not. I do wish that anyone who wants may leave a message so I will keep the blog wide open. I don’t want a few bad apples to ruin it for the others. What I really like is how easy it was to eliminate the comments under wordpress. As long as it stays within reason everything will remain the same.

Lord Jesus, there are a lot of spammers out there trying to get mileage from the sites of other people. I pray that you protect my site as well as the sites of my fellow Christian bloggers from their abuse. Amen!

The spammers are still at it. I have modified the way the blog works. If anyone tries to leave a url to some site the comment will be auto marked for moderation. This will prevent unwanted links from appearing without authorization. So… it isn’t that you can’t place a link… but that for the comment with a link to show I would need to authorize it before it appeared. Good links will not be deleted. As for the rest… shame on you.

joe – I’m so sorry you have spammers!

It’s like that “you got bankers” commercial!!!!!!!!

    😀

Patti, you are right, but I wouldn’t use the “you got bankers” commercial as an example. Ahem… Linda is a banker.

    😉

For at least one spammer; I wrote an email to Bravenet and they cancelled the account the spammers were using to send people to. It will be easy enough for them to set up another account somewhere else but at least for a small period of time I frustrated their plans.

Now if I can find the other one and do the same to them.

    🙂

Been spending my blog time writing to Lycos and Bravenet web hosting services reporting spammers who are using accounts on their servers to spam my blog and who knows how many thousands of others. Both companies have been quick to act and have suspended the accounts.

I feel like a voice of one crying in the wilderness. If others who are getting spammed would do the same as I have been doing perhaps more can be done to stop spammers in their tracks. I encourage you to report spammer accounts when you can. Together we can make a difference.

Now… I also would like to get back to blogging itself. The next entry will be a book report on a book I have just finished reading. Post it tommorow perhaps. God bless…

    Looking forward to it!

My blog hasn’t ever been spammed, but my gmail email account gets spam every now and then. I report them instantlY!

  7. Learned a new thing with WordPress. If you get too many people spamming a particular subject you go to the mangae page, click edit and untick off the comments box. I was worried that it would delete the comments made by friends. Foretunately it just gets rid of the comments box so additional comments can’t be made on that particular thread.

Now, what thread will they decide to attack next?
